How often should you be applying skincare products?

How often should you be applying skincare products?

Do you have all these skincare products on your shelf but not sure when or how often to use them? You’re definitely not alone.

Great skin doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s the result of being consistent with your skincare routine and knowing when to ramp things up and when to reel it in.
Too much or too little of a skincare product can play a huge role in the results you achieve at-home which is why we’ve broken down the most common skincare routine into steps from daily to monthly. We guarantee that your skin will thank you for it!

The Daily Squad

Most of your skincare routine will fall under the daily category as they’re integral to keeping your skin looking and feeling its best.
Starting with your cleansing routine, this should occur twice per day; once in the morning to refresh your complexion and once at night to remove your AM routine skincare, makeup, spf and any pesky dirt and grime that’s made its way onto your skin throughout the day.
Mists should also be spritzed daily as this will help the absorption of your serums and moisturisers. It’s also so refreshing after your cleansing routine, especially one like our Aloha Hoa Mist Toner that smells like actual sunshine in a bottle!
After misting, serums, moisturisers, and face oils should follow in that order. These are often your more potent skincare products with ingredients designed to treat and manage the appearance of your skin. Like all good things, consistency is key which is why your daily routine should always encompass these three steps.
The final step that every daily face needs is SPF as its final step to lock in all the hard work you’ve done.

The 2-3 Times Per Week Crew

One of the biggest skincare mishaps we see is people over exfoliating their skin. The skin doesn’t need to be exfoliated everyday as its turnover actually happens over a 28-day cycle. Instead, you need to slough away dead skin cells just 2 or 3 times per week. If your skin is on the sensitive side, you may like to opt for 1-2 times per week.
This product is part of the 2-3 times per week crew because over exfoliating leads to a whole mess of skin troubles. Whilst we know it feels oh so satisfying, too much exfoliation contributes to skin that feels irritated, dry and red. This is because you’re disrupting to precious barrier of the skin by resurfacing more than it needs.

The Weekly Gang

Once per week is the perfect occasion to give your skin a real treat by adding a treatment mask into your routine. If you can time your exfoliation and even hair washing to also fall on this day, you’ve got the ultimate at-home spa afternoon on your hands!
Following your cleansing and exfoliating (if you’ve done your numbers correctly), apply both a divine face and hair mask. Simply lay back, relax, and let the products nourish and nurture you for 15-20 minutes. This not only is perfect for an added step in any hair or skincare routine but it’s precious self-care in its finest.

The Monthly Treat

If you’re wanting to target something specific on your skin, such as breakouts or even the signs of ageing, adding a monthly professional treatment into your routine is the ultimate pairing for the hard work you’re doing at home.
Working alongside that 28-day skin rejuvenation cycle we mentioned before, a monthly professional treatment can fast track your skin results and ensure your skin is looking and feeling incredible all month long.

Adding a monthly professional treatment doesn’t replace any of the steps in your at-home routine but rather enhances it… just like the glow of your skin.
